For a written recap, read below.

At our most recent council meeting, they approved a switch in our HR software. The move will save the city money and help streamline the backend process for our HR staff.

Next we got an update from our police chief. He said the start of the year has been rough for crime numbers but they’ve been able to take dangerous weapons off the streets through recent operations. He also said the police are working proactively to counter some of the recent crime we’ve seen.

Then our infrastructure director announced we’re in the final phase of the 26th street project. There are 100 days left on the project in total. There have been some weather delays over the course of the work, but combining our two most recent phases has made up some of that lost time.

After that, our infrastructure director announced a new project will begin shortly. Waterline work on 8th street is close to getting started. This work is expected to last roughly 8 months, and we’ll put out more information on the project soon.

We also learned that the Legends of Artesia subdivision project is moving along. The paperwork has been submitted and we may have a groundbreaking in the next 2-3 weeks.

In closing, the council congratulated everyone who ran in our recent election. They also congratulated the bowling team on their season and wished good luck to Bulldogs basketball in the state tournament.

This has been your city council recap. We hope you join us for our next meeting March 24th at city hall.
