For a written recap, you can read below.

At the latest City Council meeting, they approved a land swap between the city and the Artesia Board of Education. In the deal, the board will receive property at Roberts Park for the site of a new school. Once that new school is built, the existing Roselawn school property will then be given to the city.

After that, the Mayor said that he would like to have discussions regarding motorized scooters around town. Recently, citizens have come forward with concerns they have about the safety of these scooters on the road. No action was taken, but we’ll inform you of any developments.

Then our infrastructure director said that the current phase of the 26th street project is on track to be done by the end of October. The current phase is working on 26th from Grand to Washington. The next phase will work on 26th from Washington to Ray.

Our infrastructure director also announced that the Grand street project is complete. Grand is now fully open in both directions. The project dealt with replacing an old leaky water line under the road. We’d like to thank everyone for their patience in dealing with the closures, and we’d like to thank our team for their work on the project.

After that, the council approved the addition of some equipment from our fire department to be added to the city auction that is coming up on October 11th.

Finally, the council voted to move trick or treating this year from October 31st to November 1st. This is due to the Bulldogs football game falling on Halloween this year.

This has been your city council recap. We hope you join us for our next meeting October 14th right here at City Hall.
